It's a wonder how dogs learn to be-friend their furry buddies when they are brought in for the first time. Butt-sniffing, ear-licking... that is all part of the "getting to know you" stage that puppies go through and put their older friends through when they have been invited to spend the rest of their lives with a dog they've never once seen in their life.
This is all good for them. Sharing toys, beds, food, etc. is a way for them to learn boundaries. The same goes for the dog you are introducing the puppy to. Aggression is not tolerated. However, if the older dog puts the younger dog in its place without injuring the puppy, the puppy learned its lesson. A hierarchy is established, therefore creating an everlasting bond between two (2) or more dogs in the household.
